The High Bridge

Since 1927, travelers have crossed Henderson County’s High Bridge 200 ft. over the Green River and never noticed the bridge’s own gigantic, graceful concrete arches.

Construction began on the High Bridge in May 1927 and was completed April 1928 at a cost of $113,848. The bridge was 20 feet wide and 580 feet long. ( NC Department of Transportation.)

Today, a new bridge completed in 2001 at a cost of $3.9 million is 30 ft. wide, 600 ft. long and runs parallel to the High Bridge just 50 ft. away.
