I had scouted out this location the day before, but failed to check one important detail. The next morning was cold as I set up early in the dark. When the sun finally broke the horizon and began to rise, a sudden realization hit. I needed to back up — the tide was coming in — and fast! I grabbed the tripod, moved back, and hurriedly re-composed the shot. Then, as if on cue, that wonderful bird showed up! Surprises happen. When they’re good, they help “turn the tide” to a better image!
